Introduction:

Charak Puja and Neel Sasthi are two popular festivals celebrated in different parts of India, but with a similar underlying theme. Both festivals are centered around the worship of Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati, and are celebrated to mark the divine union of the masculine and feminine energies in the universe. In this article, we will explore the significance, mythology, and rituals associated with Charak Puja and Neel Sasthi.

Charak Puja:

Celebrating the Spring Equinox Charak Puja is an annual festival celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, and parts of Bangladesh, usually in mid-April. The festival is celebrated on the day of the spring equinox, when the day and night are of equal duration. The festival is believed to have originated from the worship of Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati, and is now a part of the Bengali culture.

The festival involves the installation of a tall bamboo pole called Charak or Gajan, which is decorated with colorful cloths, flowers, and fruits. The pole is then hoisted upright with the help of ropes, and men perform daring acrobatic feats by climbing the pole, balancing on it, and even hanging from it with the help of hooks attached to their skin. This is done to please Lord Shiva and seek his blessings for a good harvest and prosperity.
